Piano Removal & Disposal

Piano Disposal

Both homes and business can take advantage of our piano removal service. Our two man teams can dispose of most pianos. However for particularly heavy pianos, extra on-site support may be needed in order for us to guarantee safe removal, as two workers cannot always move a heavy piano safely. While our staff carry sack trucks, they will not have all the pulleys necessary to move your piano down steep stairwells. We require good access to the property, and removal can not be guaranteed if it will require moving down or up stairs, or over special flooring.

Cost Of Piano Removal

Generally an average piano would be charged at about 5 cubic yards. We charge about 6 cubic yards for the bulkier and heavier pianos. An additional labor fee will be charged if a broken piano needs to be deconstructed for removal, as this would mean additional staff are needed. If this is the case, we will notify you in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Across London, Handy Rubbish has earned a reputation for careful piano moves, reliable timing, and clear pricing. With over 12 years of experience, our specialists protect floors with heavy-duty blankets, use purpose-built dollies and stair-climbing equipment, and coordinate parking and access to minimise disruption. We serve central and outer London boroughs--from Westminster to Kensington & Chelsea, Islington to Lambeth--ensuring a safe, damage-free relocation for grand, upright, or baby grands. You'll get a friendly, fully insured team and a transparent quote from the start.

We remove pianos using a carefully selected mix of equipment and techniques designed to protect your property and the environment. We use stair-climbing dollies, heavy-duty moving blankets, padded straps, and, where needed, specialised hoists to move upright and grand pianos safely. We tailor the rig to your staircase and doorway widths, and may dismantle non-structural parts under your approval. Our team covers floors with protective sheets, secures the instrument to prevent shifting, and coordinates with you to manage parking, disruptions, and building access. After removal, we sort materials for recycling where possible and transfer the rest to licensed facilities, with complete disposal documentation provided.

To ensure safety and compliance, our piano removals begin with a site assessment, trained teams, and strict operating procedures tailored to your home. We perform a formal risk assessment, verify access routes, and check elevator and doorway dimensions before lifting. Our crew uses PPE, floor protection, and secure slings to minimize risk to people and property. We coordinate with building managers and neighbours to reduce noise and disruption, and we always work within local permit rules when required. All work is performed by Environment Agency licensed waste carriers with appropriate insurance, and disposal is documented for your records.

Yes. Handy Rubbish is fully insured and operates as a licensed waste carrier, compliant with UK waste management standards. Our teams carry public liability and employer's liability insurance, and we follow strict safety protocols on every job. We can provide proof of insurance and Waste Carriers Licence on request. We also maintain clear, itemised quotes and consensus on access, so there are no hidden charges. You can rely on our professional rubbish removers to handle your piano with care while meeting all regulatory requirements.

Our staff are trained to high industry standards and work under accredited oversight. We hold Environment Agency recognition as licensed waste carriers, and we align with SafeContractor schemes to uphold rigorous safety and site management practices. Our team members receive ongoing manual handling and safety training, plus customer-service coaching to keep interactions professional and helpful. You'll also find we document every step of the process, from pre-site surveys to post-job clean-up, supporting your confidence in the service and its compliance with relevant regulations.

We've been delivering professional rubbish removal across London for more than a decade, with a proven track record across diverse properties and locations. Our experience means we understand stairs, landings, and tight doorways, and we can tailor a piano move to minimise any risk of damage. We've completed 70,000+ waste collections locally, and our customers consistently rate us highly for reliability and care. We're happy to share before-and-after photos, customer testimonials, and verification of our licensing and insurance to demonstrate our commitment to quality and safety.

Our approach prioritises recycling and responsible disposal at every stage. We separate materials to maximise reuse of wood, metal, and electronics where feasible, and we coordinate with licensed facilities to minimise landfill. We provide documentation showing recycling and reuse where possible, and we track waste streams to ensure compliance with local and national waste management regulations. Our eco-conscious methods are designed to protect your home, the neighbourhood, and the environment, while keeping you informed about how your piano components are handled.

In London, we aim to be flexible and responsive, typically offering same-day or next-day slots where possible, with most moves completed within 24-72 hours depending on access, location, and workload. We arrange a brief on-site survey to confirm exact timing, discuss any stairs or elevator requirements, and agree on the preferred route. Our transparent scheduling means you'll know what to expect and when, and we'll coordinate with building managers to minimise disruption to neighbours and residents.

Pricing for piano removal depends on several factors, including piano size and weight, number of stairs, door and corridor widths, parking limitations, distance to disposal sites, and whether dismantling parts is necessary. We offer clear, no-obligation on-site quotes and can provide fixed-price options for standard jobs. You'll receive a written estimate with a breakdown of labour, equipment, and disposal costs, plus a commitment to no hidden charges. For most projects, we guarantee accuracy of the quote after a pre-move assessment.

Preparation matters. Clear a clear path from the front door to where the piano will be loaded, remove obstacles on floors, and protect flooring with heavy-duty coverings. If possible, measure stair widths and door frames in advance and arrange for adequate parking spaces or permits. Inform neighbours about the timing to minimise disruption. We'll bring protective pads, straps, and lifting gear, and we'll coordinate with you on elevator access. Our team will lead the move, keep you updated, and ensure no-one is in the way during the lift.

Across London, we regularly serve many areas and boroughs, including Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Camden, Islington, Hackney, Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth, Hammersmith & Fulham, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham, and Brent, among others. We tailor each move to the local street layouts, access routes, and timing constraints of your area. This breadth helps ensure we can respond quickly and move your piano efficiently, whether you're near the City, the West End, or out toward outer London. Nearby parks and landmarks such as Hyde Park, Regent's Park, St James's Park, Trafalgar Square, and the London Eye area often influence traffic and parking.
