Interesting Information about Sparkhill
Sparkhill is an area of Birmingham covered by the B11 postcode. It is surrounded by Hall Green, Sparkbrook and Springfield. The name of the area comes from a small stream called Spark Brook. It was originally a hill that was situated along the stream. Sparkhill Farm was one of the buildings which were demolished for building new housing in the 1880s. Sparkhill Library was opened in 1923. This library is one of the first examples of a public building with double-glazed windows. The local Anglican Parish Church is called St John’s Church. Mermaid Inn is one of the oldest buildings that you can see in the area. However, the building was severely damaged by fire.
