Things to Know about Duddeston
Duddeston is an area in the Nechells ward of Birmingham. It has its own railway station - Duddeston railway station. Duddeston Hall was a manor house of the Holte family. During Stuart times this hall had 13 bedrooms, a chapel, gallery, outbuildings and its very own gatehouse. The family lived there and thrived during the 16th century. Eventually history saw the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens laid out around the grounds of Duddeston Hall from 1750 onward. During that time the area held nothing more than a few farms and some cottages, but the development during the 19th century saw this area turn into a peak in population of over 20 thousand people. Today one can visit St Matthew’s Church for a peek at the architecture of that time and the beauty of the Birmingham & Warwick Junction Canal.
